Study tour to IRELAND, 2011

Innovative Leadership is organising a study tour which will explore fascinating regional initiatives in Ireland – from the southern West Cork region to the northern Dublin and Belfast regions.

The tour, planned for 2011, will focus on regional strategies of:

  • Creating and fostering entrepreneurial industry networks and partnerships.
  • Regional branding - turning local agricultural produce and character into a food and tourism experience.
  • Stimulating a local culture of leadership, innovation and small business networks.
  • Education’s role in economic development and growing a technology industry.
  • Community philanthropy and building community capacity for self-reliance.

The tour will provide an in-depth learning experience, with the opportunity to learn first hand how the regional revitalization is occurring. The itinerary will include site visits, discussions with local leaders and detailed insights into the regional program design and function.

Key Tour Focus - Regional Branding – West Cork Region

A key focus of the planned tour is the West Cork region of Ireland which has embarked on an innovative and aggressive regional branding scheme. This aims to link together food, tourism, agriculture and small business development to create regional prosperity. The scheme markets under the ‘A Taste of West Cork’ brand image, and draws together small producers, tourist operators and farmers.

Testimonial

“It was an intense two weeks. We would visit entrepreneurial businesses, sometimes as many as four or five a day. Traveling by bus, we would debrief as we traveled. We tried to analyze the components of a successful enterprise, and by the third day, we could pick out the essential components, and amazingly, the same ones were present in every success story. We had access to mid and high-level government officials and successful businesses wherever we went. Most importantly, we loved “the Aussie Way” which is a super positive, can-do attitude and sincere friendliness. I have so many stories and learned so much. Now we’re involved with sharing all this with our community.”
